Avril is a fully qualified Human Givens Practitioner and Coordinator of the Registration and Professional Standards Committee of the Human Givens Institute. She holds a Master’s in Education and Training from Sheffield University.

Avril has worked predominantly in the community and voluntary sector having started her career at the grass root level reaching senior management specialising in areas including leadership, advocacy and education with a particular focus on working with and empowering women.

She maintains an interest in volunteering and community development through involvement on the board of her local community centre and other not-for-profit organisations.  She is presently a nonexecutive director on the Board of the County Wicklow Partnership.

Avril is a strong advocate of the Human Givens approach as an accessible, practical and effective framework to better understand ourselves and take good care of our emotional health and wellbeing.  Her experience of, and commitment to,  using the Human Givens approach and methods is such that individuals overcome current stressors, whatever their source, and leave each session with a renewed sense of hope and confidence.

Emotional distress can occur in anyone’s life for a whole variety of reasons and at any time. Avril fully understands how self-knowledge and understanding can be transformative and with the right support individuals can increasingly take charge of their lives, overcome old trauma, manage present day challenges and setbacks, reaching a place where they can identify and achieve their personal goals.  Avril’s intervention empowers them to rewrite their story.

Avril works on a one-to-one basis with clients and also runs small personal development and parenting courses.  She develops bespoke workplace courses and workshops for a diverse range of organisations.

Avril sees clients in the Dublin Human Givens Centre and in West Wicklow.  She is willing to travel to see clients.

An area of continued interest and research is working through the lens of the Human Givens approach to enhance the educational experience and learning environment for the benefit of both learners and education and training staff. Avril has worked with Education & Training Boards, NGO’s and providers of Higher Education in this area.  She is always interested in pursuing opportunities to work collaboratively on this subject.
